Descending the depths of the Maldives at 9pm, we placed our torches facing up in a large circle. This attracted a gigantic, hungry manta, who went from torch to torch, mouth wide open, scooping up the krill that was attracted by the light. 
 
For me this was one of the most exhilarating experiences I had ever faced as a diver, being so close, I was able to stare directly into the soul of a giant. 
 
As a photographer, in the dark with no strobes, it was a particularly challenging session.
